Mr Crowther told the AGM at the Buffs Club on Thursday he had been in the role “seven or eight years” now but had one last thing he wanted to see through in his tenure.
“The main reason I’m staying on is to see MineX 2019 through,” Mr Crowther said.
Mr Crowther, who runs The Boss Shop, was elected unopposed and he has been joined on the board by: vice president, Jennifer Termine-Toth of Andii Mihay Events, secretary, Danielle Burns of Hardrok Engineering, treasurer, Emma Harman of Hit102.5 and directors Chris Boshoff of Heavymech, Nigel Rieck of Mount Isa Airport, Karen Graham of The Buffs Club, Maree Carland of Sole Struck and Justine Cole of TAFE Queensland.
In his president’s report for 2018 Mr Crowther said it had been a good year for chamber despite having no showpiece event since MineX 2017.
“We have rolled out several successful events all with the intention to benefit local business and stimulate economic growth for our region,” he said.
“Our networking events have been prevalent this year with over 40 networking opportunities.”
These included the weekly Business Brew over coffee every Wednesday, a networking event in March at the Irish Club and the new after hours Business Brewery which has been hosted by Arvo’s Tapas Bar and the Mount Isa Civic Centre.
Mr Crowther said the annual Rodeo Best Dressed Premises was up from 15 to 25 participants this year and last weekend’s Northern Outback Business Awards was a huge success.
“Congratulations to all winners in particular Cloncurry Courier Services who took out Business of the Year,” he said.
“We feel the Awards is a fantastic platform to recognise and reward all the hard work of employees and business in our region.”
Mr Crowther said MineX 2019 would be held May 30-June 1 at Buchanan Park with 35 sites sold so far and gave a hint of a big announcement ahead.
“MineX will offer a new and exciting component, one of the biggest community inclusive closing events to come,” he said.
“It will be sure to create a memorable experience for our exhibitors who come on board...more details to come.”
