McCarthy’s is one of the main suppliers of back to school stationery in Mount Isa, and has been doing so for the last 20 years.
McCarthy’s Newsagency manager, Rebecca Heal, said the business had been very busy in the New Year preparing hundreds of book packs for students returning to school on January 29.
“We usually do about 500 school packs a year, which keeps us very busy leading up to the first day of school,” Ms Heal said.
“Each school supplies book lists for each year. Parents can come in and grab a list, see our pricing, cross off anything they feel they don’t need, then return it to us and we put it all together for parents ready to pick up before school goes back.
“We get people from Cloncurry, Mount Isa School of the Air and all the local schools.”
Packs include items such as text books, pencils, pens, exercise books, coloured pencils, glue sticks and rulers.
“Every single school and grade has a different requirement list, so parents are welcome to come and grab a list to see what the school recommends,” Ms Heal said.
“We are organising book packs right up until school returns. But if you happen to leave it to the last minute we have plenty of stationery and school items on the shelves also. Parents don’t have to go with the school pack option.”
McCarthy’s Newsagency has a back to school discount with all items reduced until February 1.
The business also has a competition for locals to win $1000. For every $50 spent on stationery, customers get the chance to win $1000 cash.
McCarthy’s Newsagency is located at 10 West Street, Mount Isa and is open from Monday to Friday 6am to 1am and Saturday to Sunday 7am to 1am. Or you can call on (07) 4743 2035.
