Mount Isa Hospital recorded 446 births for 2018, including 238 boys and 208 girls.
According to Mount Isa maternity staff, the most reoccurring baby names for 2018 were Harry and Ava/Eva.
Mount Isa mum, Kate Seymour, had her second son on February 19, 2018 and named him Harry Michael Seymour. She was surprised to hear it was a favourite name in 2018.
“I haven’t really come across any other babies named Harry,” she said.
“I liked Harry because it was an old fashioned name but we also liked it because it couldn’t be shortened.
“When Harry was born people asked if we named him after Prince Harry. We soon reassured them that we didn’t and it was actually a family name.”
Ms Seymour said they had picked the name from when they found out the gender of the baby at 10 weeks.
“We really liked the name Harry and it went well with his older brother’s name, Nate.
“My husband liked the name Ethan but I was set on Harry from the start.”
These statistics follow the announcement that Mount Isa has the highest birth rate in Queensland.
However the amount of babies born in Mount Isa have decreased over the last five years, with 440 babies born in 2017, 477 babies born in 2016, 506 babies born in 2015 and 529 babies in 2014.
