Lane Robertson was just 21 years old when he died in his sleep unexpectedly on Saturday January 19.
Catherine Masterson who started the Go Fund Me page said all donations were to support the family with financial costs “involved in organising a cremation during an already stressful time.”
“Lane passed away without life or funeral insurance. So if you can help (his family) in their time of need, it would be greatly appreciated,” Ms Masterson said.
The page was created Tuesday and raised $4000 in the first 24 hours.
Family, loved ones and community groups have also posted loving tributes to Lane.
Lane’s sister Holly Robertson posted, “It hasn’t been easy losing Lane so unexpectedly he had so much still to see and do, so much more life left in him he made everyone laugh no matter what he did! We will never forget you mate.”
His fiance, Inna Manlangit, said “Never had I imagined living without your smile. Feeling and knowing you hear me - it keeps me alive...and I know eventually we'll be together one sweet day. I will always love you bubba.”
Lane was a member of the Mount Isa Rural Brigade for over five years and the Mount Isa firies added to the tributes on Facebook.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our own this weekend. Lane started with the Brigade when he was 16 years old,” the Mount Isa Rural Fire Brigade said,
“Brought into our QFES family by one of our founding members, and step-father Doug. His cheeky smile and mischievous nature will be missed on the fire ground. Samantha, Doug, Holly, Kyle, Clay, Inna, Nanny Rose and Aunty Krystle, Family and Friends; we send our heartfelt sympathies.”
According to the Go Fund Me page any money raised beyond the costs of cremation will be used to assist his family to be able to attend the funeral.
Lane's Memorial Service will be held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church at 10am on Saturday 2nd of February. There will be a Wake after the Memorial Service at the Buffs Club on the Frog & Toad Deck.
