In January Mount Isa Mines Rodeo Inc announced their annual donations of $285,000 including $49,000 to the Rotary Club of Mount Isa South West and just $1000 to the Rotary Club of Mount Isa.
However Rotary Club of Mount Isa member Tracey Pertovt said in previous years both clubs had received an equal share of any disbursements.
“This included when South West Rotary Club was not involved with the Isa Rodeo, only becoming involved in the last five years,” Ms Pertovt said.
“We were very disappointed to read in the paper that this had now changed and our club was disadvantaged despite starting the Isa Rodeo in 1959.
“Both rotary clubs do a great job in the Mount Isa community it is just very disappointing that they are not both equally recognised.”
MIMRI Chairman and South West Rotary Club member Darren Campi said the percentage split reflects the amount of work by each rotary club for the 2018 Isa Rodeo.
“While it is clear one club is contributing the lions' share of work, we encourage the Mount Isa Rotary Club to discuss future options to be more involved with our Chief Executive," Mr Campi said.
Rotary Club of Mount Isa treasurer Louise Brogden said she didn't understand why the change was made this year.
“In 2014 I was in the South West Rotary Club, and back then we didn’t have many members and the Rotary Club of Mount Isa had a lot of members and did a lot of the work for the Isa Rodeo Despite this donations were still distributed evenly between clubs," Ms Brogden said.
"At the end of the day we were never given any notice that the distribution of funds was based on involvement of each club. If we had known that we would have questioned to the executive how could this be fair to both clubs.”
