Moving from the Gold Coast to Mount Isa in February to take up the vacant role, Ms Huston planned to revitalise the local library to attract more patrons to the facility.
"There are many ways that libraries have changed recently. They have become more community focused, with community hubs where people can come in and research the internet, get free wi-fi and get information in new ways," Ms Huston said.
"Libraries aren't traditional book containers anymore, I would like to move things around, get more displayed, new programs and new technology."

Ms Huston has developed her strategies quickly with the hire of a virtual reality headset appearing in the Mount Isa library in May.
"I have managed to get the loan of a new VR headset from State Library Queensland for three months," she said.
"We will be hosting some workshops targeted at all age groups including local schools and we will host a number of different workshops with the headset.
"Previously I have seen VR headsets demonstrate what dementia is like, so for people who are carers it helps them understand what patients are going through.
"During the time that we have it, I want it to be utilised as much as possible, so people can explore the new technology."
Before moving to Mount Isa, Ms Huston had not been to outback Queensland but jumped at the opportunity for the "great role".
"Being library coordinator is a really interesting role, because Mount Isa is a smaller city, all the library operations are combined into one library and in this role I get to do everything.
"It is not only managing a single library but also all the library services and it is everything from book purchasing, community outreach, children's programs, the whole library experience."
