The games will take place over two weekends in the end of June and North Queensland Sports Foundation CEO Steve Farrell said the launch was to showcase events at the hockey grounds and also an opportunity to remind people they had four weeks left to register for the event online.
"We've got a range of sports to choose from between Charters Towers and Mount Isa," Mr Farrell said.
"There's 18 sports along the Overlanders Way and the biggest proportion of those are here in Mount Isa."
Mr Farrell said hockey would be one of the sports hosted in Mount Isa and the hockey grounds would also host the Great Western Games opening ceremony on Friday, June 21 (Mount Isa Show Day) at 5.45pm with a march past, athletes and officials' oath, games and entertainment.
"Olympic hockey gold medallist Mark Knowles will be here for that and Queensland State of Origin rugby league player Neville Costigan will be here as well," he said.
Mount Isa Hockey president Ryan Phillip said they were looking forward to hosting the event.
"It's a great opportunity for the sport to showcase what we've got," Mr Phillip said.
"We'll probably have exhibition games, a junior and senior game, seven minute halves like we'll have in the Great Western Games."
Cr Peta MacRae said Mount Isa City Council were proud sponsors of the Games and looking forward to two busy weekends of sport from June 22 to 30.
