Due to a competition not being held this year, Kate Taylor, 27, was approached by the Miss Rodeo Australia committee to step into the role representing the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
"I came second runner up in the 2018 Miss Rodeo Australia competition and when I signed my code of Conduct, I agreed that at any time I could be called on by the MRA committee to step into the role of MRA. I was absolutely lost for words when I got the call," Ms Taylor said.
"It is an honour and a privilege to hold this title as so many talented women have before me. This is an opportunity I never thought I would have and now that I do, I am going to make sure to cherish every moment and take every opportunity thrown my way."
Ms Taylor will take time off from her everyday job as a vet nurse at Cloncurry's North Australian Veterinary Group to conduct all her royal rodeo queen duties, including travelling to APRA affiliated rodeos and assisting committees to promote the sport of rodeo.
"I will be organising and taking part in grand entries at rodeos to acknowledge sponsors and competitors, conduct school and hospital visits to promote and educate people about the sport, our association and our way of life," Ms Taylor said.
"I will be required to make TV and radio appearances as required and meet new people. Crowd mingling is also one of my favourite things to do, so I will be meeting a vast array of people and answering their questions and making sure their experience at that rodeo is a good one."
Miss Rodeo Australia competition is also known for the vast opportunities to travel including representing Australia both nationally and internationally.
Ms Taylor will start her official royal duties with her hometown rodeo in Cloncurry for the Curry Merry Muster Festival on the first weekend of August. She will then continue on the northern rodeo run heading to Mount Isa Mines Rodeo and Darwin Pro Rodeo, before heading to the National Finals Rodeo in Warwick in October.
In previous years the rodeo queen has travelled to America and Canada to represent Australian Rodeo, however it is unclear if Ms Taylor will travel abroad this year.
