Each and every Friday before match day , Young Guns Indigenous AFL team pack up their footy kit and make the bumpy journey from Lake Nash in the Northern Territory to Mount Isa.
Its a journey that takes over four hours drive, which sees the team camp overnight before each game.
Julie Gibson from major sponsor Volt-Tech Electrical Contractors said these footballers were required to travel a great distance to play footy each week with little or no financial support.
"We reached out to Darren Allie at the Grand Final last season due to their concerns that the Young Guns Lake Nash Footy Club may not be in a position to compete in the 2019 competition and expressed an interest in becoming a major sponsor." Ms Gibson said.
Since then the club has reached out to other potential sponsors.
Renee Larkins, Young Guns Administrator, from Lake Nash community had been rallying to get more sponsors on board to assist with costs and Jason and Narelle Crockett from MC Scaffolds were quick to jump on board as a major sponsor.
Julie Gibson said these sponsorships are used to pay their annual AFL registration fees along with supplying the team with fuel vouchers and meals after their game.
"Whateva Sports have also come on board and supply training aids for the community," she said.
"It had been six years since Young Guns had new jumpers so Darren Allie and Keith Web from AFL Queensland arranged for the supply of new jumpers, shorts and socks.
"Jason Dempsey designed the logo, Kristin Mahoney won the design for the front of the jumper and Robbie Larkins the back of the jumper."
The Young Guns received great inspiration from their new kit, beating Rovers by over 100 points last weekend.
"The sponsors are currently looking at raising funds to purchase a shade marquee for game days and to fix perimeter fencing at legends oval." Ms Gibson said.
If anyone is interested in getting on board with sponsorship or can help with the fencing issue please call Julie Gibson on 0408 421 793.
