Students had the chance to look at RFDS planes, chat with staff and even observe work task demonstrations.
Fifth year medical student at James Cook University Keegan Coomer came to the airport to show his interest.
"There was an opportunity to come and see how RFDS works in Mount Isa so I had to make it," Mr Coomer said.
"Im interested in this field, I love the area of medicine and the aviation aspect is amazing."
Mr Coomer said it was quite a process to be employed by the RFDS.
"There are specific and limited internships, you must have ICU (intensive care unit) experience and ED (emergency department) experience," he said.
Mount Isa RFDS manager for clinical and base operations Katrina Seng said they were giving local nursing and medical students a chance to see health services beyond the hospital.
"Its also a chance to see what other careers are out there in their field," Ms Seng said.
Ms Seng said the RFDS was exploring options to create internships and can hopefully have some available in due course.
