The festival started in 2018 with artists such as Jessica Mauboy and The Living End performing and ran again in 2019 with Missy Higgins as the headline act on the main stage.
However Winton Shire Council now says that after an extensive review of the 2019 event, it has decided to rest Winton's Way Out West Fest in 2020 to plan for a bigger and better return in 2021.
"Established in 2018 in conjunction with the re-opening of the Waltzing Matilda Centre, the event attracted many thousands of visitors over four days of great entertainment, leading to a second event in 2019," Winton Shire Council said in a statement.
"The past two years have seen the community and local businesses doing it tough, dealing with drought and population decline and while the event was a much needed boost for local people and businesses, a review and restructure is required to ensure the best possible outcomes for taxpayers."
Winton Shire Council said they recognised and thanked locals for the petition that council recently received in support of the event.
"We have resolved that a third Winton's Way Out West Fest will be planned for in 2021 with the event date and method of delivery to be determined and subject to the availability and securing of headline performers," they said.
