Mount Isa Police said that over the past month they have observed an increase in road users committing life endangering traffic offences such as speeding.
"The number of motorists detected speeding by different speed detection methods indicates more speeding offences are being committed in the higher speed brackets," police said.
"Data also indicates there has been an increase in the number of fatal crashes and fatalities for the year to April 19, compared to the same period in 2019."
As a result police said they have recommenced a limited Road Safety Camera Program in Mount Isa.
The mobile speed camera will be deployed at targeted locations on major arterial routes and known traffic crash locations throughout Mount Isa to provide a highly visible speeding deterrent.
Mount Isa Road Policing said every road user that speeds is a major factor in serious and fatal crashes.
"A speed of just 5km/h above the speed limit in an urban area or 10km/h in a rural area is enough to double the risk of casualty in a crash," they said.
"Keep an eye on your speed and stay safe."
