The services had been suspended in early April in line with directions from the National Cabinet for health services across Australia to focus on emergency surgery during the pandemic.
Central West Hospital and Health Service General Manager Acute Services Craig Carey said some of the previously suspended oral health procedures resuming included procedures such as fillings and denture work that were unlikely to generate aerosols, while excluding procedures such as scaling, cleaning and surgical extractions.
However, extra precautions designed to protect oral health staff and patients, such as temperature checking and health screening steps, will continue to remain in place at Central West dental clinics to provide extra protection for clinic staff and patients.
"Oral health clients who previously had procedures postponed will be contacted and advised of the resumption of some services and have new appointments scheduled where appropriate,'' Mr Carey said.
"As part of the progressive resumption of non-urgent services, we will also be able to fully utilise our brand-new dental clinic at Longreach Hospital,'' he said.
The new dental clinic was completed while the national decision to suspend non-urgent oral health and elective surgery procedures was in place.
"It has been expanded from one to two treatment chairs,'' Mr Carey said.
"As well as two treatment rooms, each with their own chairs, each room will also have its own X-ray machine.
"The treatment rooms are also designed with pass-through cabinets for ease of access to centrally located sterile instruments."
Dental services at Longreach had been delivered from an external mobile clinic while refurbishments in the main hospital were undertaken.
