In a video released Sunday, Sheppard said they wanted to play their new song called "Thank You" to surprise an audience that deserved it the most.
The video then shows the Mount Isa RFDS team about to dial into a video conference when one of the participants says "by the way, have you seen the new Sheppard clip, it's hilarious".
The video then shows the siblings George, Amy and Emma Sheppard, with George asking "hello is that the Flying Doctor? Surprise!"
His call is greeted by surprised and stunned laughter from the Mount Isa audience.
"You guys are awesome. You must be working pretty hard at the moment," George Sheppard said.
RFDS base manager Katrina Seng told the band they had been "crazy busy".
"But we've got a great team so we're okay," Ms Seng said.
Amy Sheppard told them that was incredible.
"You are real life heroes and we just wanted to say a massive thank you to your entire team for everything you do," Amy Sheppard said.
Finally Emma Sheppard tells the RFDS team the other reason they wanted to call was to play their new track Thank You.
"We couldn't think of an audience more deserving that you guys," Emma said.
