In a social media post Monday, the NWHHS said Dr Lourens was well-known and loved by staff, patients and colleagues, and his professional and passionate manner shone through whenever he met anyone across the North West.
Dr.Lourens worked for the NWHHS for the last six years and was passionate about the children of Mount Isa but he died suddenly, at home in his beloved adopted country of New Zealand last week.
"He was passionate about the 'land of the long white cloud' - Aotearoa - but loved coming back to Mount Isa and the North West, where he spent many a happy time discussing the finer aspects of one of his other great loves - the All Blacks Rugby team," the NWHHS said.
"He had a great sense of humour and an endless bank of amusing stories that would keep staff entertained for hours. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. Poroporoaki', Roelof."
