Minimum temperatures of seven to eight are predicted all week and a wind chill factor will make it seem colder still.
Meteorologist Shane Kennedy said a complex low pressure system is moving across the southeast of the country, with an associated trough moving off the southern Queensland coast this morning.
"A dry and cool airmass will follow in the wake of this trough as a high in the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge of high pressure over the north of the state," he said.
"Minimums are two or degree below normal and the coldest morning will be Thursday."
Today will be sunny in Mount Isa with winds easing, south to southeasterly 20 to 25 km/h becoming light in the middle of the day.
Tomorrow's top is 23 with tops of 24 to 26 predicted for the rest of the week.
It will be a bit warmer in the Gulf with minimums of 13-14 rising to 29-30 in Normanton.
Lake Moondarra is 78.58% full while Lake Julius is at 90.41%.
