Cloncurry Shire Council's industrial estate, located on the town bypass, is drawing significant interest from businesses looking to establish a hub in the North West.
With three blocks sold in the last six months, mayor Greg Campbell said this brought the total to seven sold blocks, one under contract and three in negotiation.
"A trough and polypipe factory from Katherine, The Bilba Group, have purchased a block and this is going to be their Queensland depot," Cr Campbell said.
"They are a huge organisation, so I think we can take a huge boost of confidence that a company like that sees Cloncurry as viable and their hub.
"Another local businessman bought a block a few weeks ago, and there are another 3-4 businesses in negotiation with council."
With the Heavy Vehicle Rest Area upgrade completed in October 2019, many trucks are using the facilities available with Cr Campbell continuing to call for a roadhouse in the area.
"There have been a couple of businesses come and talk to council because they are keen," Cr Campbell said.
"There is an area that was prezoned for a roadhouse. This block was snapped up straight away when the land was first developed and and is privately owned.
"If one of these companies can secure that block we could see a big roadhouse build on the bypass near our heavy vehicle bay.
"You see all the trucks that pull up at our heavy vehicle rest area and that is only a fraction of the trucks that go through Cloncurry."
In five year's time, Cr Campbell believes the industrial estate blocks will all be sold.
"If businesses understand the landscape out here they would be mad not to buy a block and set up here," he said.
"There is still so much mineralisation in the North West and Cloncurry is literally the centre of it.
"There is plenty of drilling going on to the south of Cloncurry, which would be fully serviced from here. Any work from Century Mine or into the Gulf, Cloncurry would be their logistics hub. Copper Mountain mine near Dugald River, in the next few years it will be starting construction and it will be serviced from Cloncurry. So all those mining services this is where they should be. Not to mention the rural industries."
