The state-owned facility is the first of its kind in Australia and generated interest from companies and organisations around the globe.
The drone facility will provide a location to test, trial and evaluate unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and payloads.
QinetiQ are the company contracted to design and construct the state-of-the-art facility and have recently been in Cloncurry to carry out stakeholder engagement.
Part of the community consultation is to ensure safety and transparency once the facility is operational.
It is the aim of QinetiQ to facilitate flying operations whist minimising or eliminating any inconvenience or risk to other airspace users and the population at large.
Construction is on schedule, with plans to have the flight test facility fully operational by mid October. Boeing is planned to be the first company to use the facility.
