Two former residents, Steve Trevor and John Moran have taken on the task of investigating whether a mining memorial could be built in the town as part of Mount Isa's 100 year celebrations in 2023 and met the mayor when they were in town recently.
Mayor Danielle Slade said she supported the idea and it would be raised in general business at Wednesday's meeting.
"I made the commitment to them (Mr Trevor and Mr Moran) I would talk to councillors, Mount Isa Mines and Minister Anthony Lynham which I have done," Cr Slade said.
"Everyone is on board and I guess it's just how we manage it going forward."
Cr Slade said she worked for the mines for 25 year and in the last 20 years there has been around four fatalities.
"But prior to that there was a lot of fatalities, and each one changed policies and procedures, they did leave a legacy."
Cr Slade said the memorial is worth acknowledging.
She said she has asked the government to nominate the annual miners' memorial day on September 19 to be held in Mount Isa in 2023.
