Speaking about the fact that there was no youth portfolio for any councillor, Cr Slade said there was no discussion when it came to allocating portfolios and not everyone had accepted the election result which elected her as mayor.
Cr Slade narrowly edged out former mayor Joyce McCulloch in the election but five of the former mayor's team were re-elected as councillors given them the balance of power as a team in council votes.
Cr Slade said the omission of the youth portfolio was accidental but it needed to be address as a matter of urgency.
"The decisions on the portfolios including the new tourism portfolio and the missing youth portfolio was never discussed," Cr Slade said.
"Councillors turned up to that meeting with it all decided on a piece of paper and there was no discussion."
Cr Slade said council needed to work better together.
"I do want discussion and debate before we agree on everything," she said.
Cr Slade said that up to now that was not happening and warned she would take action if matters did not improve,
"If it can't improve, I'll have to take other steps and that might include talking to the minister for local government." she said.
In the discussion following the mayor's statement, Cr Peta MacRae said the youth portfolio would fit in with her tourism and events portfolio however she agreed to stand aside when Cr Kim Coghlan said she would take on the role.
Council agreed unanimously to make Cr Coghlan responsible for the youth portfolio.
