At the Ordinary Council meeting held Wednesday September 16 the Council endorsed the reports of the Karumba Town Plan, Normanton Areas of Interest, Raw Water Irrigation, and the Carpentaria Road Network as they progress to the next stage.
Mayor Jack Bawden encouraged the Queensland Government to continue this program as it puts Carpentaria Shire Council in a better position to go for larger funding programs, like Building Our Regions, when they are released.
"Programs such as MIPP encourage Councils to better plan, undertake business case assessment and obtain whole of life costings for projects well before major funding applications are submitted", he said.
"We need the State Government to continue funding this program to allow Councils to better assess the many projects they have on their books for the community and ensure we understand the full costs associated with projects before chasing major funding".
Cr Bawden said they wanted state election candidates to commit to continuing the program so councils could put together robust plans and full costing analysis to ensure projects don't burden the community through additional rates and charges.
