Last year I attended a couple of A.G.M s and was disappointed at the low turnout of people in attendance. Mount Isa was always regarded as a "Community City" where people involved themselves in organisations which added to the fibre of our Community.
Sporting and Community clubs excelled because of the work performed by volunteers, Clubs prospered because of the loyalty of their members and organisations thrived because of the dedication of the bands of volunteers.
I recall one years ago the North West Star printed a letter from me where I expressed my concern that the demand for "Meals on Wheels" was increasing but the number of volunteers was decreasing.
Can our Community please understand that without these volunteers our whole way of life in this City will change and not for the better unless we return to the "Glory Days" when people worked as a team to assist our Sporting, Recreation, and Community Organisations. This attitude and Culture made Mount Isa such a great please to live and raise families but I am concerned that we are loosing that culture.
Our Service Clubs have numerous projects around our City which are a living testament to the excellent work that was done by these Clubs and their members over many years.
Please, anybody who has some time on their hands consider assisting our organisations to provide that extra service to our Community, I promise you will get personal satisfaction in the knowledge that you are helping to make your Community a better place to live.
Governments can do so much but it needs individuals working together to really make a Community.
