The official Tropical Cyclone outlook giving a moderate (20 to 50%) chance of a Tropical Cyclone forming in the Gulf on Wednesday as the monsoon trough intensifies over northern Australia
The next Tropical Cyclone to form in Australian waters will be named Lucas.
Tides in the Gulf may exceed Highest Astronomical Tide in the coming days due to increased monsoonal flow, particularly if the tropical low in the Gulf of Carpentaria develops.
A strong wind warning is current for Gulf waters from tomorrow as the low develops.
For Australia Day: Isolated showers and the odd thunderstorm around coastal areas most likely in the morning) and adjacent inland areas (most likely in the afternoon) of the state.
There will be isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the far west of the state, mostly sunny elsewhere.
It comes barely weeks after Cyclone Imogen played havoc in Karumba with calls growing for a weather station in the town.
