People spilled into West St to gain a vantage point and to make up for missing out in 2020 when people were unable to attend the Cenotaph in person at the height of the first pandemic lockdown.
There were no restrictions on a mild autumn morning so well over a thousand people watched on as Pastor Dave Quilty gave the blessing to begin the service.
RSL sub-branch president Jonathan Visser read the Ode and there was music from bugler Keith Cox, pipes from Mary-Jane Caldwell and the anthems were sung by Khovy Invathong (NZ) and Lenita Woodsbey (Australia).
Wreaths were laid by the RSL, Armed Forces, Mount Isa City Council. QAS, police, local schools and private citizens.
There was also a new name added to the Cenotaph with Mount Isa-born George Craven added to the list of the World War II fallen.
The day service will started with a parade at 9.30am down a new route on West St before the service starts at 10am.
