Mount Isa-born Nikki Beetham and her business partner Alix Aurisch are owners of Townsville brand Knots Apparel Co which has been named finalists in two categories for the 2021 AusMumpreneur Awards.
The pair have made the final in two awards: the Fashion Business Award and Emerging Entrepreneurs of the Year Award
The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The Women's Business School celebrate Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation and recognise the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Knots Apparel Co. launched in April 2020 designed for adventure loving, outdoor enthusiasts. With Alix growing up in Townsville and Nikki originating from Mount Isa and later moving to Townsville, the duo have a great grasp on North Queensland conditions, lifestyles and characteristics and they use this knowledge when designing and releasing new products.
Alix and Nikki launched Knots amid the early phases of Covid-19 in Australia. Both mothers of three, the ladies set goals to release a product to allow for more variety and inclusion in an industry often perceived to be only enjoyed by men.
Knots launched a range of designs that pushes traditional boundaries. The team initially launched with a start-up collection that sold out immediately. Since then, they have worked hard to keep up with demand, releasing new designs and products to support their online store and their wholesale clients.
Both Alix and Nikki are delighted to be named as a finalist in the Fashion Business Category along with the Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
Nikki said there were many benefits to balancing business and motherhood.
"Alix has three little boys and I have three daughters. Our kids never miss out on an opportunity and neither do we. Having a flexible working role allow us to be there for all the special moments that we otherwise would miss out on." she said.
Nikki's advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise was to use your time wisely so you can balance business and family to make it work.
"Do your research and commit to the end game, so many great ideas fail to get off the ground due to lack of time and commitment, if you're going to do it, make sure you can say you are giving it a red hot go," she said.
The winners of the 2021 AusMumpreneur Awards will be announced at an online event in September.
