First held in 2019 as the Barra and Blues Festival and then rebadged as Outback by the Sea in 2020, it was due to take place over 10 days celebrating Karumba's legendary local barramundi with markets and free concerts finishing off with the three-day annual Fishing Classic on the October long weekend.
This year's festival was scheduled from September 25 to October 4 with country music singer Raechel Whitchurch planned to join Adam Harvey for a festival concert.
But with the delta strain rampant in many states, organisers Carpentaria Shire Council now say they have made "the extremely tough decision" to postpone the festival.
"The threat of the virus and the low number of vaccinations in the vulnerable Carpentaria community has contributed to this decision," Council said.
"However as the sun sets on Festival 2021, the good news is that Carpentaria Shire Council remain committed to the Festival and have carried over the contracts for the award winning country and blues musicians who would have joined the line up this year. Back again bigger and better in 2022."
No date has been set yet for the rescheduled festival.
