Twenty people were arrested and charged with more than 50 offences including trafficking, supply and possessing dangerous drugs. They will appear in the Mount Isa and Cloncurry Magistrates courts in coming months. A total amount of 328.6 grams of methylamphetamine (ice) and 330 grams of cannabis were seized.
Operation Papa Journey began in July 2017 to target those involved in the production and supply of dangerous drugs in the region.
This protracted operation has seen over 90 search warrants executed on properties throughout the District.
These warrants have netted illegal firearms and dangerous drugs with a street value in excess of $300,000.
Detective Acting Sergeant Shane Wockner said that the results of this operation to date, which include the seizure of over 800 grams of methylamphetamine, reaffirms the commitment of police to disrupt the supply and demand of dangerous drugs in all communities across the North West.
“Methylamphetamine and other drugs have a devastating effect on our communities, particularly those in remote areas which have limited access to support services. I would encourage anybody who has information relating to suspected drug activity to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or the Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch on 4744 1181.”
