The pool at the newly renamed Family Fun Precinct was re-opened a month or so ago and the official re-opening will be part of an action-packed day on Australia’s national holiday.
Saturday, January 26 in Mount Isa will start with a morning tea and the presentation of the Australia Day Awards, as well as a citizenship ceremony, which will all take place at the Mount Isa Civic Centre from 9am.
Then, in the afternoon the action moves to the swimming pool.
From 4pm to 6pm, there’ll be an Australia Day Pool Party at Splashez, with free entry from 4pm to 7pm, as well as a free sausage sizzle and cake, music and games.
The event will also mark the Centre’s official reopening, following renovation work that was carried out during its winter closure period earlier this year.
That closure period included the construction of a new canteen and ablution block, and retiling and resealing work on the kids’ wading pool and rapid-river ride.
Admission will close at 7pm for the beginning of the Dive-In Movie viewed from the kids’ pool at Splashez, with people encouraged to bring along their inflatable, plain pool rings so they can float on the cool water, or sit poolside and relax while they enjoy the family-friendly animated movie, “Sing”, on the big screen.
No alcohol or glass will be permitted into the facility.
“This is the first time that we’ve had a pool party and dive-in movie on Australia Day and we’re extremely excited to host such a big celebration that is sure to delight people of all ages,” Mayor Joyce McCulloch said.
“With free entry to the pool for the party, and a free barbecue at Splashez this is going to be a perfect day out for the whole family – and a fitting official reopening for Splashez.
“We would love to see everyone come along and celebrate Australia Day with us at the Civic Centre for the Australia Day Awards presentation and citizenship ceremony in the morning, then have a great time and cool down at Splashez for the pool party and dive-in movie later that afternoon.”
To accommodate the event and ensure safety for staff, Splashez opening hours will be 10.30am to 7pm on Saturday, January 26, and Sunday, January 27.
Mount Isa won’t have all the fun by itself.
Camooweal’s famous Australia Day lawnmower racing will return as usual held outside the Post Office Hotel.
