There are currently vacancies for four traineeships, two cadetships and two apprenticeships at Council, ranging from positions within Technical Services and Finance, to IT, Plumbing and Administration.
“The traineeships, cadetships and apprenticeships available with Mount Isa City Council provide the youth of the area the chance to experience the various offerings working within and for their local council,” Council Acting Deputy Chief Executive Officer Mark Crawley said.
“Local Government offers a very diverse experience for young people, who, during the course of their training, are also provided with an insight into the workings of their local council, not just the area of their training.
“Having started as a trainee within Local Government myself at a young age, I can attest to the opportunities that are available to those who wish to choose Local Government as a career path.
“It is very rewarding and sometimes challenging, but the diversification of the many positions available make it a very positive working environment and career opportunity.
“The trainee positions will provide an opportunity for the young people in Mount Isa to learn new skills and gain valuable experiences that will prepare them for further employment and open up an exciting career opportunity.”
Council has been running its own trainee and apprenticeship program since 2016, when two trainees were brought on board. Last year six trainees started working at Council, with all of them now close to completing their traineeships and under consideration for retention, where possible.
