Coles contractor truckies Craig Dwyer and Bill Taylor, nicknamed Bugs and Bugsy were stuck at Longreach for three days due to the floods prior to leaving on their adventure.
Bugs and Bugsy crossed three state borders to get to their destination.
Coles State Transport Manager, Jason Millard said using local intel and a little cowboy intuition one driver believed he could follow the Rabbit Proof Fence to get into Mount Isa from the west.
“He sought permission to attempt delivery via an alternative route and we told him to be safe and then he was on his way,” Mr Milliard said.
But just 50km out of Mount Isa, one truck blew a fuel pump.
“At this point Coles hadn’t had a delivery for five days, and the shelves were getting bare,” Mr Millard said.
“But with the logistic teams tracking them, they managed to fix the fuel pump and deliver the goods to a hero’s welcome.”
The load of two trailers was full of grocery essentials and chilled products, including toilet paper, nappies, tinned and packaged food, drinks, chips, dog food, meat, frozen products, cheese butter, and eggs.
