The joint initiative officially opened on Thursday November 7 provides a new approach to security and safety for local business operators and the community.

The hub will work a space for security officers and police officers to spend time in when not out on a job thanks to Mount Isa Village owners ISPT.

ISPT Property Investment Manager Amanda Brookes said they relocated the original security office from upstairs in the mall to downstairs in an effort to have a more visual presence.

"The concept is new, getting security closer to the ground and also looking out for the Simpson St stores," Ms Brookes said.

"The office will allow us to work together with police and will work like a hybrid security and police hub and will run during trade hours of the Mount Isa village."

Superintendent Glen Pointing said the hub was a joint initiative from the Village and Mount Isa police station.

"The proposal came forward that there was a space for a security hub and it all went from there," Superintendent Pointing said.

"We get large groups of juveniles that hang around shopping malls not just here but all around Queensland.

"We don't want people to feel intimidated when they are shopping and increased police presence should make people feel safer and reduce crime."

The office is situated in Shop 49 near the taxi rank facing Simpson Street.
