And that's exactly what happened across many parts of the North West on Tuesday January 22.
It was late Tuesday afternoon when a few raindrops fell from the sky but, the heavens opened up later in the evening.
Rain fell gradually for about two hours in Mount Isa but only managed to record 3.4 millimetres.
However other parts of the region also received rain with Cloncurry recording 5.4mm, New May Downs 2.2mm, Lake Julius 16mm and Camooweal recorded 21.6mm.
To the north, Century Mine recorded 20.6mm, Normanton 2.8mm and Mornington Island 1.6mm.
But don't think this is the end of the rain.
The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts more rain in Mount Isa for the rest of the week.
Wednesday January 22, is expected to be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of a shower in the evening and reaching a top of 37 degrees.
Thursday is forecast to have partly cloudy conditions and a medium (50 per cent) chance of showers most likely in the afternoon and reaching a top of 32 degrees.
Friday and Saturday are predicted to be partly cloudy with a medium (60 per cent) chance of showers and thunderstorm in the evening; reaching a top of 32 degrees
Sunday (Australia Day) is to be partly cloudy with a medium (50 per cent) chance of a shower, reaching a top of 33 degrees.
Lake Moondarra is currently sitting at 45.1 per cent and Lake Julius is at 72.6 per cent.
