David Keenan was appointed Council's Interim CEO following a Special Meeting of Council and started in the job on Monday ahead of the departure of outgoing CEO Sharon Ibardolaza on October 9.
Mr Keenan is a former CEO of Southern Downs Regional Council and Cr Slade said he interviewed for the position really well and did his 'homework".
"He read our contingency plan, our operational plan and he obviously did a lot of reading of the North West Star articles about council," Cr Slade said.
"He know so much in that interview. I was impressed,"
Cr Slade said Mr Keenan came from a background of big councils.
"I'm hoping he brings all that experience to Mount Isa City Council and move us forward."
Mr Keenan had a background as a CEO at Councils in Victoria and New South Wales before taking the reins of Southern Downs in January 2015.
He finished that role in April this year with the mayor of Southern Downs praising him for guiding the Council through floods, bushfires, drought and COVID-19 while leading a major financial reform process to ensure the council's ongoing financial sustainability.
As interim CEO, Mr Keenan will lead Council the next five to six months while Council undertakes a recruitment process for a permanent new CEO.
