The BoM gauge at Mount Isa Airport registered 1.8mm falling between 7am and 9am and more is on the way.
The forecast for the rest of Thursday is for cloudy weather and a very high (90%) chance of showers with the chance of a thunderstorm this morning and a maximum temperature of 22.
Friday will be cloudy with a medium (50%) chance of rain, most likely in the early morning. It will be a cool day with a max temp of 17.
More typical sunny weather returns on Saturday with temps climbing back to the mid 20s by the middle of next week.
There was no rain in Cloncurry, the Gulf or the official Mount Isa gauge overnight,but areas south of the city did better - Urandangi recorded 28.8mm to 9am and The Monument 24.0mm.
Trepell Airport at Cannington's South32 mine did better still with 33.0mm to 9am and a further 7.2mm to the time of writing.
Lake Moondarra is at 60.34pc full while Lake Julius is 90.53pc full.
