The MITEZ management committee appointed Cr Campbell to the role following the retirement of long-term president David Glasson.
Cr Campbell has been mayor of Cloncurry since 2016 and on the management committee for several years and he paid tribute to the outgoing president.
"Dave has served MITEZ for more than 13 years, and played a crucial part in showcasing the growth opportunities in the North West and highlighting the massive contribution the area delivers for the regional and state economies," Cr Campbell said.
"Dave's intention has been to retire following the transition of CEOs".
That happened when Glen Graham retired in November 2020 and new CEO Catherine Robson was appointed in April this year.
Cr Campbell said Mr Glasson would now be able to concentrate on his business.
"But I am sure he will always be a strong advocate for the North West".
The MITEZ Management Committee will now undergo a recruitment process with the aim to appoint a new President at the MITEZ AGM in November.
