Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Dave Crock said a low pressure system near the Great Australian Bight was driving a band of clouds across south and west Queensland.
Most of the rain pelted across regional Queensland earlier on Wednesday had missed Mount Isa but the area could later be hit with wild weather, Mr Crock said.
“Most of the activity is in the south but there are showers to the north-west of Mount Isa,” he said.
“There is a good chance of storm activity in next few hours. It doesn’t look particularly intense but could see heavier stuff later."
Causeways in Mount Isa were closed last week after the region was belted by storms on Tuesday, November 14.
The wet weather is expected to continue to Thursday, with clear and fine conditions expected by Friday.
