MICC claim this is because of both the new water-charging methodology introduced by council this year, and an average reduction in the water used by ratepayers.

Council Chief Executive Officer Sharon Ibardolaza said this gave ratepayers greater control over their water charges by managing their own water use.

"The average reduction for water costs is $28 per ratepayer, with more than 2000 ratepayers seeing a saving of over $100," Mrs Ibardolaza said.

"Overall water consumption across the city’s residential properties had dropped by five percent in the same period.

"This means the vast majority of residential ratepayers should stay within the 950kL charging tier of $0.87 per kL for both the current and next billing periods."

Mrs Ibardolaza said that, due to recent flooding across the North West causing Mount Isa residents’ rates notices and water bills to arrive later than expected, the due date for the latest rates notice was extended until Friday, April 5.

"Residents who have yet to receive their rates notice are also encouraged to call Council’s Customer Services Department on 4747 3200 and confirm that the address that’s on file is correct, to enable their rates notice to be sent out again. The notices can also be emailed out if requested," Mrs Ibardolaza said.

Those who may be experiencing financial hardship are also urged to call Council’s Customer Service Department to discuss payment arrangements.
