"We understand how vital a role pets play in our every day lives. Animals can reduce depression and stress, increase social interaction and physical activity as well as providing companionship and comfort," Mr Abel said.

"Pets become an important family member and bring joy and unconditional love.

"The Mount Isa Community Team want to find ways to help make life more affordable for Mount Isa seniors and veterans and while this isn't a lot for council to give, we believe it will be a tremendous help."

Ms Slade said the proposal would be paid through changing the tag registration to a one off payment instead of the current one year tag paid annually.

This comes shortly after Slade's announcement of placing transparency and community engagement at the top of her campaign.

"If our team is elected, the Mount Isa Community Team will change the council meetings time to an after hours time slot to ensure that all members of the community have the opportunity to attend," Ms Slade said.

"We will also be holding a public forum before every meeting giving community members a chance to put their views and concerns forward."
