Cooper have entered into a heads of agreement to "bolt on" their existing tenement holding east of Mount Isa.
Earlier this year Cooper Metals signed a heads of agreement to buy 75pc of a tenement adjacent to their existing interests at Mary Kathleen and now their interest will increase further.
Cooper Metals listed on the ASX in November and their land holding in the region, including the Python and King Solomon copper-gold prospects, will increase to 1575 square kilometres once the acquisition has been finalised.
The company believes these areas are underexplored by modern techniques and may offer some cheap exploration wins and a strong copper-gold pipeline of targets.
Cooper Metals managing director Ian Warland told market analysts Proactive the Mary Kathleen domain was an exciting area for copper-gold.
"We want to be a major player in the Mount Isa area, we believe it is under-explored, a lot of these areas have not been looked at for a good 30 years," Mr Warland told Proactive.
"We can come in and apply some modern exploration techniques and we may be able to pick up some low-hanging fruit."
Mr Warland said fellow explorers like Carnaby Resources and Hammer Metals have been in the area for several years and had built up a lot of momentum.
"We've only started four months ago, we've now got the right ground, we're starting to build momentum," he said.
"We believe we can build a strong pipeline of copper-gold targets in that Mary Kathleen domain."
Mr Warland said they would be doing an airborne survey in May to look for sulphide conductors for potential drilling later in the year.
