Key North Queensland freight and tourism routes including the Tennant Creek to Townsville Corridor will be upgraded as part of a $232 million works blitz to be announced in Tuesday's budget.

Senator for Queensland and Special Envoy for Northern Australia Susan McDonald said these projects will make roads safer, create thousands of jobs, reduce travel times and boost regional economies.
"Good roads are key to moving the millions of tonnes of minerals, cattle, and freight produced in North and North West Queensland more safely and efficiently," she said.
"We're going to see road crews embedded in many smaller towns, staying at motels, buying food and spending money locally while the work's on.
